Description:

Pre and Post instruments allow for the comparison of what the student thinks and knows prior to the course and what the student thinks and knows at the end of the course. The same survey or instrument is given at different points in the semester (typically early/late) and analyzing the change in responses suggests the actual impact of the course.

In ESSE:

Attitude
The Pre-Post Science Attitude Survey  is used for an Introduction to Environmental Science course at Austin College.

Content
The Remote Sensing Skills Test, used in a University of Alaska Remote Sensing course is used in pre and post fashion to learn which discrete skills students gained from the course. The results have helped the instructor refine the material and instruction. Another example is the Pre-Post Earth System Science Assessment from Loma Linda University. Jackson State University also offers a pre-class assessment of Earth and space science knowledge.
