Description:
A performance assessment is a demonstration of acquired skills in the appropriate context, as opposed to completing an exam or writing an article. Demonstrating a field data collection technique, showing the class how to use a remote sensing tool, or explaining a particular aspect of a detailed topographical map as a lecture are all examples of performance assessments.
In ESSE:
Students in an introductory environmental science course at the University of Missouri, Kansas City are required to work in groups to research one of ten topics in the Arctic Climate Change Assessment and then to individually prepare a written reflection on the topic.
