Attitude surveys consist of a series of questions that cover student attitudes toward the course, the discipline, and their own learning. Analysis of responses can provide valuable information for instructors teaching a new course, changing the delivery of a course (e.g. co-teaching with different instructors), or modifying the design of an existing course (e.g. converting an earth science course to an earth system science course). Useful link: Detailed description about attitude surveys may be found at the FLAG (Field-tested Learning Assessment Guide) website, at National Institute for Science Education at University of Wisconsin, Madison. Midterm Attitude Survey and Midterm and End Attitude Survey: The University of Missouri, Kansas City Environmental Science 110 course uses a comprehensive attitude survey to help the instructor learn about the design of a new course; this is administered only once at the mid-term point. The University of New Hampshire Earth System Science upper level course administers the Midterm and End Attitude Survey in pre/post fashion (midterm and end of semester).
